    Department Overview
    Systemwide Human Resources is responsible for developing a vision, strategy and environment to engage, empower and involve the university's human capital, in the present and onwards. This includes employee and labor relations, finance, administration, strategic planning, equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, total rewards and administration of UC retirement operations.

    Position Summary
    The Systemwide Director of Leadership and Organization Development leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of leadership development initiatives that cultivate leadership capabilities ensuring that the organization has strong leadership capabilities to navigate future challenges and enhances the overall organizational performance. Works in collaboration with UC senior leadership at all locations to identify talent development needs, drive leadership excellence, and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth. Independently utilizes and applies wide-ranging experience and proficiency in organization development, effectiveness, business analysis, change management, and strategic planning on projects that have organization wide and systemwide impact. Understands business needs and how organizational systems, both technical and administrative, supports those needs. Having wide-ranging experience, uses organizational development concepts and organization objectives to resolve the most complex issues with organization-wide impact and political sensitivity, where analysis of circumstances and information requires an in-depth evaluation of factors. Provides expert executive consulting services to develop organization capability through the alignment of strategy, structure, management processes, people, and metrics. Provides expert facilitation and leadership coaching. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Is considered a subject matter expert of the organization. Internal and external contacts often pertain to organization plans and objectives. Is considered a subject matter expert of the organization and often recognized as an expert externally in the industry. This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within the state of California or be willing to relocate.

    Key Responsibilities

    20% Leads the design and execution of systemwide leadership development strategies, resources, and systems to drive workforce planning initiatives in areas of talent identification, development and promotion, succession and organizational readiness, and onboarding. Defines current and future leadership capabilities to predict workforce and talent pipeline needs, identify risks and compliance requirements, and uses data insights to drive transparency and informed decision making. Performs the most complex and advanced analysis techniques, understands past performance and determines present and future performance and / or resource allocations.

    15% Provides strategic systemwide guidance and consultation to senior leaders regarding talent and organizational effectiveness with a strategic and global view into external trends and the implications on the UC workforce. Develops unique solutions guiding senior leaders in developing transformation strategies with organization development and change management initiatives that support outcomes with a location-wide and/or systemwide impact. Provides strategic planning, design and facilitation, and high-level project management on complex, multi-faceted problems to achieve strategically aligned workforce and talent solutions.

    20% Leads multi campus/location and cross-functional teams to drive transformation initiatives to solve highly complex organizational transformation issues impacting workforce effectiveness and workplace culture. Exercises wide judgment in selecting and developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining appropriate results and resolution of organizational readiness, workforce and talent development, organizational effectiveness issues. Assesses highly-complex situations to measure desired results and impact, requiring in-depth understanding of issues and relevant factors for success.

    40% Leads and manages all program administration, implementation, curriculum development, facilitation, assessment, and reporting of systemwide UC leadership programs and resources for senior and executive leader development.

    5% Guides and advises less experienced organizational consultants in systemwide HR and at UC locations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Facilitation experience using various leadership and talent multi-rater assessments, organizational development, and talent management resources and tools.

    Demonstrated self-awareness and active commitment and engagement with others to enhance equity, diversity, and inclusion in decisions and actions.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Knowledge of Federal and California employment laws, and University of California employee policies.
