Youth Advocate
Park Place Outreach is seeking youth advocates specialist to join our team in the Savannah, GA area.
As a youth advocate, The Youth Advocacy Specialist is responsible for the daily care and supervision of youth ages 11 to 17, BCP and/or males ages 18 to 21, TLP in the living unit. The Youth Advocacy Specialist creates a safe, nurturing, and productive environment for residents and is responsible for the basic needs of residents as well as physical well-being and social development of those residents. TLP, Youth Advocacy Specialist also assist with teaching and promoting engagement of basic life skills essential for independent living.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least two years of experience in a related /residential home setting, preferred although not conditional for consideration.
- New Child Care Worker must log at least 40 hours of on job training before working unsupervised with children.
- Satisfactory clearance of criminal background, DMV, and drug screening.
- At least 21 years of age (per RWBO)
- Valid Driver’s license & insurability for van operation, preferably over the age of 25
- CPR and First Aid Certification within one month of hire and Mandated Reporter Training
- Knowledge of MS Office applications
Responsibilities:
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) are responsible for on-shift documentation in residents’ files, as well as documentation in all other assigned areas pertaining to residents.
Resident Supervision:
- Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) are responsible for meeting the basic needs of the residents and providing a safe and nurturing environment for all residents. This is done through supervision of all activities such as, homework, outings, meal time, free time, hygiene, wake-up, and bedtime. The activities that a Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) monitors will be determined by the shift that they are working. Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) shall supervise daily activities of residents -including instructions and/or activities assigned by Program Director. Days when residents are not in school, Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) shall be responsible for supervising youth on off-site outings.
Resident Engagement:
- Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) are responsible for engaging residents creating an environment where their voices can be heard without stigma or judgement.
- Cooking/Housecleaning: Each Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) is responsible for cooking and housecleaning duties that arise on the shift. Those duties will either be assigned by the Basic Center Program Director or his/her designee. Each staff person will be provided information or training about these duties.
- Transportation: Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) will be responsible for providing resident transportation to and from school, and to various activities such as community functions, activities, shopping. This duty will be assigned by the Program Director or his/her designee.
- The Youth Advocacy Specialist(s) assigned to the night/awake shift shall monitor sleeping children every 15 minutes and document in writing.
Park Place Outreach is a 24-hour facility, 7 days per week. Your attendance is critical. Employee is responsible for finding shift replacement (48 hours written notice) in When I Work and/or from relief roster and then approval from House Manager. Emergency absence will require documentation, i.e. from doctor hospital, or other independent third party with knowledge of the emergency.

Program Related Duties:
- Work with other staff members to share and complete paperwork for residents
- Attend staff and team meetings, trainings and staff development activities Attendance at staff meetings will be considered at the annual review and raises. Provide weather-related emergency backup as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by House Manager and/or Program Director

Physical Demands
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Lifting or moving items weighing up to 25 pounds (groceries, supplies, etc.)
- Requires mobility through a home-like environment and office space in a multi-floor building. Walking up and down stairs frequently (Shelter is a two-story facility)
- Walking up to several (not all at one time) miles (accompanying residents on field trips, outings)
- Occasionally includes reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting to 25 pounds for office equipment, supplies and materials.
The duties include:
- Being on the premises between the hours of 8:00 am. thru 11:00 p.m.
- Providing assistance or coverage if an emergency occurs during these hours.
