Streetplus Company, LLC, has immediate opening for Social Service Outreach Specialist in downtown Richmond, VA. The position will be responsible for street-level engagement with the unhoused and unsheltered population with a focus on case management, referrals, and establishing positive relationships with local service providers.

The position will work Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, but expected to flex hours to meet operational and customer demands. This is a full-time position and will work closely with our customer in implementing and managing a successful outreach program.

JOB SUMMARY

The Streetplus Social Service Outreach Specialist will circulate on foot and in a vehicle throughout downtown Richmond, making contact with unhoused and unsheltered individuals with the primary focus on engagements and referrals. The engagements will be documented and managed with appropriate software platforms and reviewed on a regular basis. Referrals to services may include, but not limited to, case management, housing assistance, substance abuse support, food, clothing, shelter, medical, appointments, counseling, employment, and other relevant services.

In addition to engagements and referrals, the position will develop positive working relationships with local agencies and governmental departments structured to provide services to those in need. The position will work within the local systems to refer individuals to shelter beds and other services.

This position provides daily street-level outreach services, working with neighbors, businesses, and partner organizations in downtown Richmond.

The successful applicant will have a high level of collaboration to problem solve, ability to identify potential problems, de-escalate tense situations, provide service connection and create a coordinated street outreach strategy, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

REQUIREMENTS

§ High school diploma or equivalent required; undergraduate degree with coursework in the social service field preferred.

§ Minimum of three years’ experience in work related to social work or outreach programs

§ Demonstrated ability to respectfully engage unhoused and unsheltered population

§ Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, as well as a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.

§ Ability to prioritize workload and activities.

§ Dependable, able to work under pressure, receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem solving.

§ Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customer, staff, outside contacts, businesses, city staff, and local agencies.

§ Must pass pre-employment background check
