Packaging Machine Operator sets up and operates a packaging machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Fills, secures, and labels containers according to company and/or customer specifications. Being a Packaging Machine Operator verifies goods packaged against package invoices. Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Additionally, Packaging Machine Operator adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. Documents inventory number and weight, and organizes packages. May make minor repairs to packaging equipment as needed. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Operate oil plant processes, operate water plant processes, perform work in the yard unloading and loading drummed waste, utilizing heavy equipment (front end loader and/or skid steer) optimizing process efficiency and maintain customer requirements with a high standard for safety, compliance, and regulations, following company policy and procedures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Operate oil plant, water plant and yard operation processes and follow production schedules with respect to time and volume.
· Rotate monthly between oil, water and yard operations to keep training and skills relevant
· Process batches of various fuels and treat batches of water to meet HOWCO internal process and quality specifications and external customer specifications, to minimize consumer complaints and eliminate major quality incidents
· Make transfers of oil and water from truck to tank, or tank to tank using manifold valves along with electric and/or hydraulic pumps.
· Monitor and record various oil and water process parameters
· Pump oil through filters, shakers and screens to remove solids.
· Transfer oil to processed storage tanks for delivery
· Load products onto transport tankers from oil storage tanks for delivery to customers.
· Input various information into company software systems (Data Entry)
· Gauging/measuring storage tanks – taking daily inventories
· Hooking up hoses to tankers and relocating the trucks within the property
· Collecting oil samples from recovery trucks, tankers and various storage tanks
· Operate equipment (front end loader and/or skid steer) to perform essential functions and task required to complete yard operations.
· Unloading, loading, staging and handling of 55 gal. drummed waste and empty drums
· Unloading and loading of various chemicals and bins required to perform plant functions
· Participate in shift change meetings with other shift operator(s), coordinating daily duties, loading, and unloading products in coordination with the Operations Manager and/or Management Team.
· Participate in Safety meetings and report unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions or work practices to the Safety Manager.
· Coordinate problems, issues, opportunities and projects with the Operations Manager
· Maintain effective communications with QAQC Specialist, Transportation Dispatcher, Operations Manager, Maintenance Team and other plant personnel to ensure a smooth shift operation.
· Maintain and enforce the quality standards, safety rules, DEP compliance, and OSHA and HOWCO regulations within the facility gates.
· Ensure safe working conditions in the department at all times during shifts.
· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/Management
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Communicate need for supplies and materials to maintain the daily operation
· Coordinate and prepare a daily physical inventory of products by measures.
· Initiate work orders for maintenance repair when needed.
· Develop a “team player” environment with peers and supervisors.
· Maintain high standards of safety/housekeeping in the facility.
· Able to climb ladders and steps throughout shift or as needed
· Experience in industrial hydraulics, hydraulic flows, pumps, pumping operations, valves and electrical motors
· Experience operating forklifts, skid steer and/or front end loaders
· Knowledge of fluid transfers
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
· Basic computer knowledge
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
· Experience in industrial hydraulics, hydraulic flows, pumps, pumping operations, valves and electrical motors a plus
· Knowledge of fluid transfers
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; uniforms, eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots,and hardhats. All work is done outside in the elements. Must be able to tolerate heat and cold conditions.
WORK SCHEDULE
· Upon successful completion of job training the operator will be required to rotate in and out of the oil plant, water plant and yard activities every month.
· Operators may be required to work Saturdays based on business needs.
