Packaging Machine Operator sets up and operates a packaging machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Fills, secures, and labels containers according to company and/or customer specifications. Being a Packaging Machine Operator verifies goods packaged against package invoices. Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Additionally, Packaging Machine Operator adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. Documents inventory number and weight, and organizes packages. May make minor repairs to packaging equipment as needed. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Mill Rock Packaging is excited to start the search for a Die Cutting Operator. This position is onsite at our Salt Lake City, Utah facility, reporting to the Die Cutting Manager. Mill Rock Salt Lake City (previously All Packaging Company) is one of the many facilities that make up Mill Rock Packaging, a quickly growing platform in the packaging industry and a market leader in the design, engineering and production of high-end, sustainable and customized graphic paperboard, folding carton and commercial printing products. The facility serves customers in various dynamic industries including consumer staples, food and beverage, technology, pharmaceuticals, health, beauty and more.

As a Die Cutting Operator, you will be responsible for all activities associated with the set-up, make ready, operation, cleanup and order documentation of the die cutting machines for quality cutting of cartons.
This is a full-time, on-site position. Specific shift hours will be agreed upon at hiring, however, changes in manufacturing needs and schedules may necessitate a change to the original agreed upon hours, or the working of additional, overtime hours. Every effort will be made to give advance notice of any permanent changes.

Key Responsibilities
Responsible for safely and efficiently operating a die cutter.
Set up of press and make ready of job.
Stage all materials for next job on press (printed sheets, cutting die, plate and blanking tools, platforms for loading material).
Perform pre- and make ready duties.
Check sheets while job is running.
Take die cut loads to Gluing and Stripping staging areas.
Conduct routine maintenance.
Perform other job duties as assigned.
Help maintain organization of plates and cutting dies.
Assist in process improvement/waste reduction techniques.
Follow all departmental policies, safety rules and procedures.
Follow all good manufacturing policies as they relate to food safety.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Basic Qualifications
Language Skills – Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Computer Skills – Basic computer skills are required to read work instructions, record job data, follow work schedule, and communicate via email.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Paperboard folding carton industry experience.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $22.00/hour to $30.00/hour. Pay is based on a variety of complex factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
