Job Summary:
2-year apprenticeship program progressing to Refrigeration Tech II role. This role will complete progressive training on the job and classroom to progress to evacuation, proof-booth, and charging stations.
~6 month on-the job training in brazing, water-piping, and electrical
~18-month training and experience on evacuation, charging, leak test, and proof-booth equipment.
Enrollment in Piedmont Tech with HVAC courses as prescribed in apprenticeship documents (11 hours of course work)
Responsibilities:
Learn and perform brazing, water piping, and electrical processes.
Braze Excellence certification
EPA Certification (Core, High Pressure) on applicable refrigerants.
Safety understanding and competency with refrigerant handling, lock-out/tag-out, A2L sensors and alarms.
Understand common components operations, examples being Solenoid Valves, Reversing Valves, Actuators, and Check Valves
Read schematics and blueprints to understand refrigeration system design
Leak test and “proof” test chillers post brazing processes
Locate potential leaks using various methods.
Install vacuum pumps and ensure required metric is met prior to charging.
Charge units with refrigerant. Reclaim refrigerant on units requiring rework/repair.
Maintain evacuation, charge, proof-booth equipment with preventative maintenance procedures.
Utilize Lock Out Tag Out and Electrical Safety.
Trouble shoot chiller issues including but not limited to leaks, charging, directional flow of refrigerant
Work cross-functionally with engineering, team leads, and operators to root-cause corrective action.
Operate in FLR uniform and perform various physical tasks including stoop, stand, kneel, validate items in difficult to reach areas. Lift and assemble equipment to connect and disconnect modules.
Qualifications:
Willingness to enroll or currently enrolled in local technical college to attend external courses to progress with skills and knowledge in HVAC field as prescribed in the program.
Minimum 6-months experience in brazing and/or electrical assembly.
Preferred - EPA Clean Air Section 608 Certification a plus.
Preferred - Knowledge of various refrigerant types.
Preferred - Proficient with knowledge of diagrams and schematics.
Ability to work in a team setting and demonstrate a positive work attitude.
Actively practices and promotes safety.
Committed to continuous improvement in products, services, and processes.
