PACS Administrator is responsible for the daily operations of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems. Oversees equipment maintenance and systems testing, upgrading, and installing. Being a PACS Administrator acts as a liaison between the Radiology department and customers. Maintains positive vendor relationship. Additionally, PACS Administrator requires a bachelor's degree. Requires a certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The PACS Administrator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. PACS Administrator is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of our imaging systems and providing technical support to our staff and physicians. Candidates should have a strong understanding of PACS, RIS, DICOM, HL7, voice recognition software and other imaging-related technologies, as well as experience in networking, server administration and project implementation. Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team are necessary to perform the required job functions.
Job duties include:
· Manage and maintain PACS and associated systems, including RIS and PowerScribe voice recognition software.
· Implement and maintain system security, backups, and disaster recovery plans.
· Provide technical support to radiology staff and physicians.
· Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including HIPAA.
· Manage vendor relationships and contracts related to PACS and imaging systems.
· Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to PACS and imaging systems.
· Train new users and provide ongoing training and support to existing users.
· Perform system upgrades and patches as needed.
· Monitor system performance and troubleshoot as issues arise.
· Responsible for planning and implementation of new PACS and imaging systems.
· Perform other IT duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements and Skills:
· Skills include hands on experience with RIS/PACS information software, creating workflow designs, and supporting and training radiology staff and physicians. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, active directory, network security updates and patching.
Education Requirements:
· Graduate of 24-month Radiography Program with ARRT certification or Bachelor’s Degree in IT/Informatics (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
· Preferred candidate for this position has 2-5 years’ experience as a PACS Administrator.
