Responsibilities may encompass various tasks across multiple locations, including grounds and maintenance, housekeeping, visitor activities, campgrounds, specialized recreational activities, or interpretive programming. These assignments offer opportunities for learning and skill development in park management functions. Duties include but are not limited to: • Seasonal management responsibilities for remote or unstaffed park areas • Assist higher-level Superintendents within larger state parks or recreation areas • Promote park activities through public speaking and community outreach • Oversee daily operations of remote park areas or specific operational departments • Ensure preservation, protection, and maintenance of facilities, campgrounds, trails, etc. • Perform administrative tasks: data collection, budget monitoring, purchasing • Supervise technical seasonal staff • Participate in maintenance, construction, and repair activities • Conduct park security, compliance, and customer service procedures • Serve as point of contact for park improvement projects • Collaborate with agencies and partners for information exchange • Conduct routine inspections of park grounds and facilities Positions in this class may work outside normal business hours, including weekends and designated holidays, to respond to complaints or incidences. Requirements / Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND one year related experience. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Ability to plan, manage, analyze and evaluate park maintenance. Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and application of park maintenance and conservation. Gain knowledge of departmental rules and regulations. Ability to communicate effectively; establish and maintain community relations with park guests, local, state and federal agencies. Ability to learn park operations, administration and financial management. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to supervise subordinate staff and to enforce park rules and regulations. Ability to work weekends and holidays.
