    Lead Pastor

    Ministry Position Description

    SUMMARY

Discovery Christian Community (DCC) has been in existence for 60 years and has a beautiful, large worship facility and property that is fully paid off and has been significantly remodeled. Over the years many pastors, leaders, missionaries, and ministries have been raised up at and sent out by DCC, and the congregation looks forward to many more fruitful years. As the world capital of Mormonism, Salt Lake City certainly is a uniquely challenging place to do ministry. DCC is praying for a pastor who has a calling to reach LDS for Christ and help people find a real relationship with the true Jesus Christ.

This past year a Congolese church was planted at DCC, and our heart is to not only reach LDS but the Hispanic community as well as many other ethnicities who call our city home. Recently, a Hispanic church is also being planted here. We dream of a day when the vision statement above our worship center, “Come, all nations, gather to worship before His throne,” is fulfilled.

Salt Lake City is one of the fastest-growing cities in the West for many reasons, including being one of the best places to do business in America, it’s family-friendly atmosphere, and natural beauty. The license plates don’t say “Greatest Snow on Earth” for nothing, the host city of the 2002 Winter Olympics is home to some of America’s best ski resorts. There are more national parks in Utah than any other state, and Utah is famous for all kinds of outdoor activities (hiking, biking, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, climbing, etc.). The secret is out, thousands are moving into the Salt Lake Valley, and DCC wants to be one of the churches reaching them for Christ.

DCC has had various staff over the years, but currently only employs a lead pastor full time. We desire this to change in the next few years as the right pastor will certainly bring in new families and the need for additional staff (youth/family ministry pastors, etc.) will emerge. There is a dedicated group of lay leaders and members at DCC who serve and lead various ministries, and the congregation is praying for a pastor with a heart for the lost and a passion for the local church to lead DCC into the next phase of our congregation’s His-story. We are a church that is committed to growing and reaching lost people for the cause of Jesus Christ and are looking for a leader to lead us into this next season.

The unique values of Discovery Christian Community are:

    • Kingdom Minded - Our commitment is to Jesus, His teachings, and His Mission above all else. Our goal is to represent Jesus well in the local and global church demonstrating God’s eternal and coming kingdom.
    • Spirit Filled – Our attention is to conform to the image of Christ through the power of and absolute dependency on the Holy Spirit.
    • Love Generously – Our practice is to express tangible love to all people because we experience the love of the Father.
    • Grace Wins – Our posture is to extend grace to others since God’s grace overwhelms us.
