Pastoral Care Director - Healthcare develops programs and oversees services designed to meet the religious and spiritual needs of patients, their families, and healthcare staff. Ensures that pastoral services are staffed so that chaplains are available to support patients and families facing difficult medical choices. Being a Pastoral Care Director - Healthcare establishes policies and procedures to facilitate optimal service delivery and ensure that emotional support, spiritual counsel, and comfort are provided. Evaluates and reviews records of counseling sessions and visitation logs to ensure compliance with professional and ethical standards. Additionally, Pastoral Care Director - Healthcare plans and coordinates with other clergy to conduct interfaith worship experiences. May perform the duties of a chaplain. Requires a master's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Pastoral Care Director - Healthcare typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Pastoral Care Director - Healthcare typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     POSITION SUMMARY: The Pastoral Care Professional is an integral part of a Pastoral Care team that embraces a model of care for the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Directed to the spiritual dimensions of the human person that are often appreciated more deeply during times of illness, pastoral care is an integral part of the patient care team. Pastoral Care Professionals are effectively integrated with patient care and family support services on patient care throughout OSF. A foundational focus of Pastoral Care is to serve as a pastoral and spiritual support to patients, care givers and patient care teams in ways they identify as meaningful and helpful. Through professional training and certification, the Pastoral Care Professional assists patients/families to understand more fully life's events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.


    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree

    Experience: Successful completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.

    Successful completion of the ICHA/NCBC Course for Chaplains on the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs) as required by the local Diocese within six month of hire.

    Other Skills/ Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.

    Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.

    Solid standing in the Church through ecclesiastical endorsement.

    Must meet requirements of the local Catholic Diocese regarding the appointment pastoral care staff of a Catholic healthcare institution.

    Ability to articulate the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Facilities.

    Ability and desire to work with patients/family, clergy and volunteers of varying faith backgrounds.

    Flexibility in work hours, programs, and services.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college, university, seminary or divinity.

    Completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education.

    Experience: One or more year's pastoral care experience in acute care hospital setting.
