Pastoral Care Director, Sisters of Notre Dame Health Care Center
The Sisters of Notre Dame Health Care Center provides rehabilitation and long-term care to Sisters of Notre Dame within their home at the SND Provincial Center. The Pastoral Care Director oversees and ensures the provision of pastoral/spiritual care to patients/residents of the Health Care Center (45 beds) as well as to sisters residing in the Notre Dame Village memory care (8-12 sisters). Pastoral care also extends to the residents’ families/friends and to the healthcare staff.
Requirements: professional preparation such as a degree in theology, divinity or pastoral studies, or clinical pastoral education (CPE). Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Minimum five years’ experience as a pastoral minister or chaplain, preferably in a health care setting or working with the elderly. Extraordinary minister of Holy Communion in the Diocese of Cleveland (or eligible). Up to date Virtus training. Competencies/Skills: Counseling, Crisis Management, Bereavement Support, Spiritual Guidance, Religious Services, Pastoral Care, Communication Reports to: Health Care Director; works closely with Health Care Center Community Coordinators Hours and schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), will include some evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities: Understand and support the mission of the sisters of Notre Dame and the philosophy of the SND Health Care Center. Train and oversee volunteer pastoral visitors, both sisters and lay. Give Eucharist to sisters in Health care during Mass, schedule a confessor twice a month. Coordinate and keep records of administration of sacrament of anointing. Arrange for annual retreat for residents in collaboration with Community Coordinator and Bethany Retreat Director. Prepare prayer services for staff for Advent, World Day of the Sick Feb 11, Ash Wednesday, Lent Advocate for residents in spiritual and religious matters. Accompany sisters as they prepare for their final journey, including funeral planning. Coordinate funerals of sisters. Coordinate the annual Mass for the Deceased.
