Patient Registrar, Sr. collects information from incoming patients regarding services needed, insurance available, or financial status. May assist in completion of admissions or insurance forms. Being a Patient Registrar, Sr. contacts insurance providers to verify coverage and obtain authorization for service. May review claims or records to ensure accurate completion or coding in an effort to reduce reimbursement denials. Additionally, Patient Registrar, Sr. requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Patient Registrar, Sr. typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. May be entry level if some experience in the skill. Description
The Patient Registrar at Check-In serves as a receptionist at Patient Registration (front desk), greeting all patients and guests of the practice and getting them signed in for their appointments.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Open/Close the waiting room
- Greet and check in patients at Patient Registration
- Place in Check-In in the EMR
- Notify Billing Department of insurance updates
- Collect co-pays
- Batch credit card machine receipts and balance monies in cash drawer with receipts
- Sort & distribute mail
- Maintain clean & tidy waiting areas each day
Requirements
Experience & Education
- High school graduate or equivalent
- 1 year medical office experience preferred
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with patience and compassion
- Ability to effectively multi-task
- Ability to comply with OSHA and HIPAA policies
