Payroll Director directs all aspects of payroll processing operations. Establishes and oversees payroll processes and procedures for routine processing, tax reporting and internal financial requirements. Being a Payroll Director designs short-term and long-term strategies to achieve continuous improvement and efficiencies in payroll processing and delivery operations. Keeps stakeholders informed about the status of payroll laws and regulations and develops implementation plans for required changes to operations. Additionally, Payroll Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Payroll Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Payroll Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Processes payroll in Workday and ensures payroll is processed accurately and by established deadlines. Point of contact for employees with payroll inquiries, related to federal and state withholdings, payroll deductions, promotions, direct deposit, and other pay issues.

    The Payroll Specialist should be able to handle confidential information in a professional manner.Essential Job Functions : Process multiple payrolls in multiple states on a bi-weekly basis within the Workday payroll systemReview payroll registers, pre-posting checklists, and complete audits of each payrollProcess and respond to garnishments with WorkdayWork with the Benefits team regarding 401(k) Plan level reporting, benefit deductions, and LOA payroll requests.

    Process out-of-cycle checks and terminations in accordance with state payroll requirementsReview and approve employee updates in WorkdayAudit and submit 401(k) payroll contributions report after each pay cycleProcess BLS Audits, unemployment insurance wage audits and state tax notices, track and process all severance agreementsWork closely with Finance for payroll funding, benefit costs, etc.

    Audit states to ensure appropriate withholdingMake sure new hire tax statuses and any W-4 allowance changes are correctly processedWork on prior week adjustments for hours submitted late or not approved on time, overpayments, underpayments, and retro transactionsExecute payroll adjustments for pay rate changes, leaves of absence, PTO, and unpaid leaveAssist employees with payroll and HR-related questions or concernsAssist with system conversionsMiscellaneous duties as assignedOther activities may be assigned by your managerQualifications / Requirements : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experienceCPP certification preferredWorkday payroll experience is strongly preferredIntermediate-level support staff with 3-5 years of payroll processing experience.

    Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented team environmentKnowledge of Federal and multi-state / local tax filing and reconciliationMust be highly accurate, organized and detail-orientedMust have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of employees and the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and be organizedAbility to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional mannerProficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
