Payroll Manager is responsible for managing payroll processing operations. Establishes policies and processes that ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions. Being a Payroll Manager interfaces between finance and human resource departments to provide accurate and useful information. Develops and produces payroll-related statistical reports. Additionally, Payroll Manager ensures accurate and on-time governmental reporting and compliance. Oversees the activities and training of both professionals and support staff. Directs the resolution of complex issues or errors. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Payroll Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Payroll Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Payroll Supervisor serves as a key finance and business team member at Southern Furniture Industries. Responsibilities range from routine daily tasks to annual budget development. Works closely with Operations and Human Resources.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Preparation and processing of weekly payroll; review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets and production pay

    • Determine and submit payment for payroll liabilities, including federal/state withholding, unemployment, deductions, garnishments, 401k, etc.
    • Prepare quarterly and annual tax returns, including W2s
    • Complies with federal, state and local laws related to payroll
    • Reconciles all payroll related accounts in the general ledger
    • Supervise payroll clerical employee(s)
    • Coordinate with human resource, budget and other departments to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data including preparation/distribution of payroll reports
    • Travel – Low

    Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

    The ideal candidate will be an individual with a degree in Accounting/Finance and at least 3 years of payroll experience in a manufacturing environment.

    Desired Technical skills and abilities include:

    • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential and exercise extreme discretion
    • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system
    • Complies with federal, state and local laws related to payroll
    • Excellent problem solving/judgement skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
    • Spreadsheets—high proficiency
    • Interpersonal and team skills
    • Communication—finance-to-finance; finance-to-business, verbal and written
    • Software literate—Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Payroll systems, etc
