Payroll Manager is responsible for managing payroll processing operations. Establishes policies and processes that ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions. Being a Payroll Manager interfaces between finance and human resource departments to provide accurate and useful information. Develops and produces payroll-related statistical reports. Additionally, Payroll Manager ensures accurate and on-time governmental reporting and compliance. Oversees the activities and training of both professionals and support staff. Directs the resolution of complex issues or errors. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Payroll Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Payroll Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. This position will be responsible for the bi-weekly processing of payroll for 350 employees located in our seven offices in two states.     Candidate Qualifications:

    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience processing payroll for 350 employees required
    • Professional services and/or AEC industry experience a plus
    • Experience with a project-based timekeeping/accounting system a plus (e.g., Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint, BST10, Sage 300)
    • UltiPro, Kronos, UKG, ADP, or similar systems experience a plus, implementation experience a plus
    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification, or willingness to pursue one (company-provided) from the American Payroll Association
    • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, taxes, and controls
    • Possesses a customer-service mindset, demonstrating to all employees, clients, and vendors
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel

    Job Functions & Responsibilities: This role will be the primary payroll administrator for AKS. Working with accounting, finance, management, and human resources, the following tasks will be assigned:

    • Ensures successful and accurate bi-weekly processing of in-house payroll through BST10 for 350 employees from seven office locations in two states (OR and WA)
    • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
    • Ensures employee pay and deductions; payroll deposits; daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting are completed in compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
    • Ensures compliance with prevailing wage rules and laws and the accurate reporting thereof
    • Facilitates annual payroll, insurance, and benefit plan audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
    • Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements
    • Oversees procedures and processes and manage inquiries and requests related to preparation and distribution of payroll
    • Maintains or oversees the maintenance of electronic employee payroll records
    • Actively participates, identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures
    • Performs other duties as assigned
