Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of payroll processing operations. Ensures accurate calculation of wages and processing of tax withholding and company deductions. Being a Payroll Supervisor prepares statistical reports on employee pay, commissions and bonuses; vacation, sick, disability and workers compensation leave; taxes, withholding, etc. Oversees the distribution of paychecks and direct deposit programs. Provides training to team on policies, regulations, and processes. Additionally, Payroll Supervisor assists team members with resolving errors or responding to inquiries. May be the first level escalation for complaints or complex error resolution. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Payroll Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Payroll Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.     POSITION OVERVIEW

    The payroll supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the payroll processing operations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

    • Oversee the weekly payroll process
    • Run high volume on- and off-cycle payroll
    • Review all errors in payroll batches to ensure all errors have been appropriately handled
    • Ensure all payroll batches have appropriate back-up documentation and approvals
    • Ensure successful transmission of direct deposits by reconciling bank confirmations to payroll reports
    • Ensure that employees garnishments, liens and or child support demands are processed in accordance with request
    • Assist accounting with any questions arising from the weekly payroll journal
    • Assist accounting with reconciling related payrolls accounts monthly, as needed
    • Support the Manager of Payroll with implementing and achieving department goals
    • Identify and assist with development of support materials for team use, including SOPs, training manuals, and job aids
    • Develop and maintain metrics that assess quality performance and identify root causes
    • Stay current in payroll and payroll tax laws and requirements
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
    • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    • Two (2) years of previous payroll experience
    • One (1) year of experience in a supervisory role
    • Solid understanding and working knowledge of payroll processes and systems
    • Strong familiarity with complex time and attendance in a union and non-union environment
    • Knowledge of tip compliance and payroll taxes
    • Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Software

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The position supervises Payroll Specialists.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
