Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs per physician's instructions in a hospital or healthcare facility setting. Consults with medical staff about potential drug interactions, patient medical history, and the use of particular medications. Being a Pharmacist responds to questions from patients about medications and dosage instructions. Ensures that all required pharmacy data is recorded and maintained and complies with all regulatory, security and hospital procedures. Additionally, Pharmacist may supervise pharmacy technicians. Requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Pharmacist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Emergency needs are given top priority and fulfilled as soon as possible,
The pharmacist supervises assigned technical staff by:
Prioritizing tasks and overseeing preparation and checking all medications prior to dispensing for accuracy and completeness,
Delegating other appropriate tasks and checking for accuracy,
Communicates frequently with the technician and uses effective supervisory skills,
Prepares medication when necessary or appropriate, including: chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, large volume parenterals, IV piggybacks, and extemporaneous compounding,
Utilizes sterile technique methods for the preparation of sterile products,
Provides solicited and unsolicited drug information and recommendations to prescribing physicians to assure safe, efficacious, and cost-effective drug therapy and documents suggestions,
Recommendations include, but are not limited to:
Pharmacokinetic consultation
Parenteral nutrition consultation
Switching from intravenous to oral formulations of medications
Medication renewal
Responds to all Code Blue and Code White alerts; prepares all medications used in the resuscitation attempt,
Assists in other ways at the direction of the physician in charge,

Maintains and enhances professional competency through continuing education and other professional growth activities which are consistent with current departmental needs and future goals,
The pharmacist cooperates with and participates in departmental training and educational programs,
Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or assigned unit
Assess data reflective of each patient s status and interprets information needed in order to identify each patient s age requirements relative to his or her age specific health needs,
Applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span,
