Summary:

This position will provide pharmaceutical guidance for Direct Relief’s global humanitarian health programs and emergency response efforts. Responsibilities include identification of appropriate medications and supplies for specific initiatives and disasters, addressing medication safety issues, liaising with global healthcare professional organizations, and supporting all departments with drug information and overall clinical perspective of Direct Relief activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide medication recommendations for global programs and emergency response
• Match expressed/anticipated medical needs with available inventory and develop targeted requests for donations from manufacturers
• Allocation of medications and supplies to recipients based on appropriateness, network size, capabilities, expiry dating, and geography
• Understanding of disease state prevalence and prescription medication utilization in low- and middle-income countries
• Ensure product safety after complaints or deviations in temperature that may affect quality
• Understand general trends in drug development to better prepare for shifts in the pharmaceutical industry (emerging therapies, specialty, biologics, etc.)
• Assure proper compliance with Boards of Pharmacy

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited school and licensed by the CA State Board of Pharmacy
• Minimum 2-5 years of pharmaceutical experience
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills, presentations skills, interpersonal skills, and cultural competency
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
• Strong knowledge of medications for a large variety of disease states
• Strong organizational skills and ability to distill complex medical information for a general audience
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Previous experience with local, state, national or international disaster response preferred
• Previous experience with inventory management or supply chain logistics preferred

Physical Requirements/Demands:

• Ability to travel via automobile, train, or airplane.
• Must pass (clear) toxicology screening.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel for conferences and partner visits (<10% of time)
