The Pharmacy Buyer ensures adequate levels of drugs and supplies are available in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacies and that purchases do not exceed budget. Liaisons between buyers and manufacturer's representatives to ensure that the organization purchases pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment that meet quality standards while minimizing costs. Being a Pharmacy Buyer requires certification as a pharmacy technician and licensure from the State Board of Pharmacy. Requires a high school diploma. In addition, Pharmacy Buyer typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Years of experience may be unspecified. - Reviews inventory and determines which items need to be ordered and in what quantities
- Processes purchase orders, transmits to vendors, and ensures timely confirmation of prices, quantities, arrival dates, and receipt
- Ensures purchase orders meet all shipping requirements such as pickup, deliveries, vessel sailings, etc., and manages any discrepancies
- Verifies quantity, quality, and code dates, production, or expiration dates received from vendors
- Provides purchase orders and container schedules to receiving warehouse operations
- Maintains and ensures containers are received in a timely manner
- Communicates with sales, logistics, operations, accounting, and other departments to alert of potential issues and responds in a timely manner to requests for information
- Analyzes and forecasts current and future buying trends
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Efficient typing skills, with an emphasis on accuracy
- Ability to compile information and make decisions
- Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Critical thinking skills and ability to react on short notice
- Constructively communicates and exercises authority as appropriate
Education and Experience:- Perishable experience preferred
- Purchasing background preferred
- At least two years of experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or related field preferred
Physical Requirements:- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Frequent exposure to chill environment (35-38 degrees Fahrenheit)
