The Pharmacy Buyer ensures adequate levels of drugs and supplies are available in the inpatient and outpatient pharmacies and that purchases do not exceed budget. Liaisons between buyers and manufacturer's representatives to ensure that the organization purchases pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment that meet quality standards while minimizing costs. Being a Pharmacy Buyer requires certification as a pharmacy technician and licensure from the State Board of Pharmacy. Requires a high school diploma. In addition, Pharmacy Buyer typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Years of experience may be unspecified.     St. Croix Health is looking for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Pharmacy Buyer to join our team!This position will work Monday through Friday, day hours.  Primary location is St. Croix Falls.  Float to Frederic and Unity locations as needed. 
    The Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for obtaining pharmaceutical supplies needed for inventory management by the hospital and retail locations. This position is also responsible for 340B purchasing and specific audits, drug recalls, returns, financial management of all drug accounts, and assist in oversight of all controlled drug processes. 

      

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    1. Oversees all pharmacy inventory, prescription and non-prescription

    • Independently handles all aspects of purchasing and purchasing compliance  
    • Ensures best prices are obtained from all buying sources 
    • Determines and maintains adequate inventory volumes 
    • Maintains DSCSA requirements for transactions with other retail pharmacies 
    • Audits invoices for potential returns and savings 
    • Codes all pharmacy invoices  
    • Oversees and maintains compliance with VFC program purchases 
    • Coordinates pharmaceutical returns 
    • Coordinates pharmaceutical outdate returns 

    2. Pharmacy statistics and financial reporting

    • Complete monthly billing statements and audits
    • Reconciles credit card statements
    • Completes reporting and billing for pharmaceutical item usage by department
    • Completes chemotherapy billing reports
    • Assesses quarterly reports for cost changes to ensure purchases are cost effective
    • Assists with pharmacy financial activities and auditing including charging, billing and reporting
    • Assist with pharmacy forecasting, reporting and operational metric tracking

    3. Minor responsibilities

    • Performs the work of a retail and hospital Pharmacy Technician as needed, including assisting pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications. 

    Requirements

    Education & Licensure:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required within six (6) months of hire
    • Must be registered in Wisconsin to work in a pharmacy at time of hire

    Experience:

    • Minimum two (2) years Pharmacy Technician experience required
    • Proficient use of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, etc) and computer processing

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Proficient written, communication and listening skills 
    • Proficient time management, priority setting, and organizational skills 
    • Able to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times 
    • Able to communicate effectively, both verbal and written  
    • Able to work cooperatively with medical center and pharmacy staff.  
    • Able to work independently, handle frequent interruptions, adapt to changes in workload and work schedule, prioritize work, and think critically.  
    • Able to response quickly to emergency requests.  
    • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service- assessing customer needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.  
    • Demonstrate ability to follow specific instructions and complete job accurately  

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
