Pharmacy Director directs, establishes, and plans the overall policies and goals for a hospital or healthcare facility's pharmacy services. Maintains contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy. Being a Pharmacy Director requires a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Typically requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Additionally, Pharmacy Director typically reports to a top management. The Pharmacy Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Pharmacy Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Pharmacy Assistant assist licensed pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of medications and other pharmaceuticals to customers and healthcare providers. This person is responsible for greeting customers and obtaining their personal information such as address and insurance information. This person is expected to manage communications with customers, insurers and other staff. Their role is to keep track of customer information and organize office records to ensure that all customers get prompt care and provide the correct payment information for their accounts. The Pharmacy Assistant interacts with customers by helping them fill out forms, calling to remind them about appointment times, working out payment schedules and explaining next steps to process a referral or fill a prescription. They file medical paperwork and record interactions related to each file.

    Expected duties and responsibilities performed under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists include, but are not limited to:

    § Assist in the preparation and dispensing of medications

    § Assist in the preparation of extemporaneous pharmaceuticals

    § Accurately count and pour medications from stock containers

    § Repackage and label products and extemporaneous doses

    § Receive and input prescription orders into system

    § Liaise with healthcare providers to ensure accuracy of prescription information

    § Release refill medications and over-the-counter products in accordance with existing procedures

    § Request new prescriptions from physicians where necessary

    § Provide customers and customers with necessary information about their prescriptions, medications and products

    Customer data management:

    § Collect, organize and maintain customer information and profiles

    § Input details into prescription/customer/pharmacy data management system

    § Maintain confidentiality of customer data

    Inventory management:

    § Monitor and maintain inventory of medicines and pharmaceutical supplies

    § Place orders for required inventory

    § Receive and record medications and pharmaceutical products

    § Process charges

    § Package and label medications and pharmaceutical products

    § stock shelves

    Payments:

    § Prepare billing details for medications

    § Collect and process payments

    § Complete sales transactions for prescription and over-the-counter medications and other pharmaceutical products

    § Process insurance claims

    General Duties:

    § Maintain work area in an organized and hygienic manner

    § Keep pharmacy equipment clean and in good working order

    § Ensure products and shelves are kept neat and tidy

    § Adhere to quality assurance standards at all times

    Education Requirements:

    • High School Diploma
    • Associate's Degree preferred
    • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician not required, but is preferred
    • knowledge of sterile product preparation; drug regulations; medical and pharmaceutical terminology; generic and trade names of commonly prescribed medications.
