Pharmacy Service Clerk is responsible for performing daily, routine tasks in the pharmacy such as answering the phone, responding to customer requests, data entry, record maintenance, and other clerical duties. Follows organization and department procedures to complete tasks in a timely manner. Being a Pharmacy Service Clerk assists with stocking and inventory tasks. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Pharmacy Service Clerk typically reports to a supervisor. The Pharmacy Service Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Tasks of Position

    The following are core and essential responsibilities of this position. Associates are responsible for completing any and all duties assigned as required for the successful operation of our business. All associates are required to perform their job duties in a manner which upholds the integrity and honesty of our company.

     

    • Reporting for assigned shifts on time, and on a regular basis, capable of communicating clearly and demonstrating suitable physical abilities to safety perform assigned tasks and duties, prepared to provide excellent service and leadership.
    • Promoting sales through active discussions with guests, offering OTC product recommendations, and discussing current promotions and service information. (Examples may include: ordering products special requests, assisting guests locate products close to the pharmacy, and chatting about Yoke’s signature items, fresh board and sweet deal suggestions).
    • Providing in-service training to all new personnel ensuring they learn exceptional guest service, special features and services offered by the Pharmacy Department. Services include: carefully informing, educating, consulting, and providing medication management and drug utilization review and, answering questions on drug interaction, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals. Special features include: Prescription savings club, free fluoride for children, free prenatal vitamin for expectant mothers, insurance billing, pet prescriptions, smoking cessation, special orders of OTC, and vaccinations. 
    • Performing inventory, sales, and other bookwork required to monitor financial performance, ensuring the overall operations and profitability of the Pharmacy Department, achieving company budget goals with regard to sales, labor and gross margin, interpreting sales and expense data.
    • Maintaining licensure in the State of Washington and/or Idaho and capable of the following:
    • Compounding and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals for patient care using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
    • Reviewing and filling prescriptions issued by Physicians, or other authorized prescribers in a timely manner, and assuring accuracy.
    • Determining formulas and ingredients needed for prescriptions.
    • Participating in health care screenings or wellness programs at store.
    • Entering data such as patient name, prescribed medication and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
    • Maintaining established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. 
    • Directing pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. 
    • Training staff on safety procedures. 
    • Ensuring proper sanitation and housekeeping in the pharmacy.
    • Operating (at minimum) the following equipment in a correct and safe manner: com-line, telephone, FM unit (handheld), copy machine, fax machine, reconstitube, computer and all other equipment used in or by the Pharmacy Department
    • Communicating guests’ requests with accurate and complete instruction for special orders. 
    • Identifying and supporting the development of associates who show promise or interest in increased responsibility.
    • Finding a way to “Make Our Guests Crazy About Us!”
    • Ensuring all work performed in the department is completed in accordance with all local, state, federal and company rules, regulations, and policies regarding workplace safety, sanitation/housekeeping standards, and guest services. 
    • Participating actively in the Pharmacy Department’s accident reduction plan including: monitoring displays for trip hazards or instability, observing safe lifting techniques, and recognizing safety features of all machinery, store evacuation plan, and robbery policy.

    This position’s supervisory responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

    • Supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of associates in the Pharmacy Department by performing all duties personally, or through secondary personnel.
    • Performing supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance in a timely manner; rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. 
    • Possessing and displaying excellent leadership and communication skills in handling associate matters.
    • Implementing and enforcing company policies.

     

    Qualifications

    • Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD Degree; one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    • Language Skills

    Reads, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Responds to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Effectively and pleasantly communicates with guests, vendors and fellow associates at all times.

    Performs advanced mathematical and scientific concepts as business/practice demands.

     

    • Reasoning Ability

    Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deals with several abstract and concrete variables. Strong attention to detail.

    Physical Demands & Safety Expectations

    Most positions within Yoke’s require physical effort to varying degrees. As such, associates are expected to be mindful of practicing Yoke’s safety standards at all times. This may include using personal protective equipment when and where required, understanding ergonomic safety, chemical hazards, safe lifting techniques, lockout/tag out procedures, and emergency protocol. All associates are required to report accidents within 24 hours.
