Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense medical prescriptions. Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May prepare labels and routine prepacked orders. Additionally, Pharmacy Technician may be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). The Pharmacy Technician possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medication orders in a hospital pharmacy setting
- Utilize medical terminology and knowledge of medication administration to accurately prepare and label medications
- Infuse medications and prepare sterile products using aseptic technique
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective medication therapy
- Maintain inventory of medications and supplies, restocking as needed
- Perform calculations to ensure accurate dosing of medications
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare providers
Experience:
- Previous experience as a pharmacy technician in an acute care or critical care setting is preferred
- Familiarity with inhale medications and their administration
- Proficiency in using pharmacy software systems for order entry and inventory management
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team
