MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

  • Duties

    • Monitor and maintain stock level of medical supplies used for applicant medical processing and restock as necessary.
    • Perform Quality Review on medical records.
    • Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples for HIV and perform other laboratory tests, using safety precautions.
    • Ensure OSHA requirements are met for the proper use, storage, and disposal of needles.
    • Brief applicants on proper collection procedures for a variety of laboratory tests.
    • In-process applicants, verify identity using previously captured biometrics (digital fingerprints and photographs).
    • Maintain control log, custody logs and rosters, and treatment center referral list in accordance with regulations and policies.
    • Prepare quality assurance review of documentation.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
    • Must use restrictive and protective clothing such as surgical gloves, employee cannot wear exposing footwear.
    • Applicant must be able to pass a color perception (vision) examination.
    • You will be required to submit to blood test when hired and on a yearly basis.
    • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
    • Applicant must be physically able to perform (demonstrate) and evaluate military physical aptitude (maneuvers) tests.
    • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
    • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
    • This position is gender specific and requires the employee to be male.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) experience assisting with physical examinations (such as optical or audiometric tests, electrocardiogram, urine collection/processing), 2) performing phlebotomy and/or operating medical equipment such as audiometers, stereoscopic vision testers, and centrifuges, AND 3) documenting patients' medical information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-05).
