TEC Campus School is a special education day program for students ages 3 through 21, with significant needs, including multiple cognitive and physical disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, communication disorders, and medical challenges. The TEC Campus School offers a warm and caring learning community and provides an environment where students are supported by highly skilled teachers and an integrated team of specialists designed to meet each student’s individual needs and maximize student learning across people, places and situations.
Our school offers a full-day, small classroom setting that provides medical support and multi-sensory instruction in communication and functional skills. Our resource rich classrooms and therapeutic settings are equipped with a range of instructional and assistive technologies. TEC incorporates an integrated related services model.
We are looking for a full time Adapted Physical Education Teacher to teach and assess students with intensive special needs based upon IEP goals and objectives. In this position, you will facilitate and instruct students with the support of the staff in Adapted Physical Education classes and activities. The Adapted Physical Education Teacher works with the classroom team to implement instructional and behavioral programs as well as integrate therapeutic goals into APE activities.
Education and Experience
A candidate for this position should have:
•Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
Current, valid MA DESE Certification as a Physical Education Teacher
Associated course work and/or experience in Adapted Physical Education preferred.
•Experience working with students with severe special needs preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A candidate for this position should have knowledge of the following:
•IEP Goal and Progress Report writing, Student Assessment
•Common teaching competencies as defined by the Department of Education
•Teaching and assessment strategies utilized with students with moderate/severe special needs
Skill in:
•Oral and written communication
•Accuracy and attention to detail
•Differentiated Instruction
•Developing data driven goals and objectives
•Technology, Assistive Technology, and Alternative Forms of Communication
And an ability to:
•Use discretion and independent judgment
•Perform multiple tasks simultaneously despite interruptions
•Maintain confidential student information
•Work collaboratively as part of a team, and manage a team of specialist, aides and nurses
•Deal tactfully and appropriately with administration, parents
