Physician Assistant - Specialty assesses, plans, and provides patient care in a medical specialty, such as cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, etc. under the supervision of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Being a Physician Assistant - Specialty orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Participates in daily patient rounds, writes progress notes, conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries. Additionally, Physician Assistant - Specialty requires completion of the PANCE exam administered by National Commission of the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Requires a master's degree in Health Sciences for Physician Assistants or related. Requires Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). Requires State license to practice. Typically reports to a physician. - EDUCATION

- EXPERIENCE
- Prefer minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility/clinic in area of specialty.
- CERTIFICATION
- Must hold NCCPA certification and be eligible for licensure as Physician Assistant in West Virginia and maintain certification.
- Healthcare BLS validation required within 60 days of employment, with revalidation per AHA guidelines thereafter; ACLS preferred.
- COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
- Standard office and medical equipment with emphasis on electronic health records, and various clinical equipment that may be used to carry out the duties of the position.
- Excellent computer skills are necessary to perform various job duties in the clinical area.

- Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
- Knowledge of specific tasks related to particular medical practice.
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
- Knowledge of federal, state and other regulations affecting physician assistants.

- Skill in performing Physician Assistant responsibilities appropriately.
- Skill in managing time, maintaining timely patient and process flow.
- Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Abilities:
- Ability to learn and retain information and work independently.
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
- Ability to not deviate from scope of practice allowed by state/federal regulation
