Assists in the diagnoses and therapeutic management of infants in the Newborn Nursery under the supervision of a physician; organizes and presents patient data to the supervising physician(s) to include recommendations for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens as determined by patients’ needs using applicable medical and surgical equipment; issues diagnostic and therapeutic orders including orders for approved drugs following applicable guidelines; provides instructions and guidance regarding health care and medical therapy to patients and family members; performs complete, detailed and accurate health histories and reviews patient records; orders appropriate laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies; performs comprehensive physical examinations and assessments and records pertinent data in appropriate electronic health record; formulates medical and nursing diagnoses and institutes appropriate therapies or referrals of patients to appropriate health care facilities, agencies, physicians, or other resources in the community; plans and initiates a therapeutic regimen which includes ordering drugs, medical devices, and nutrition and supportive services; interprets and analyzes patient data to determine patient management and treatment; administers injections and dispenses medications; creates and edits documents within Cerner; serves as Cerner instructor for new providers; prepares reports as needed; serves on various committees and Quality Improvement teams; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program, certification as a nurse practitioner, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse.
