Womack, we are a fully accredited 110-bed, evidenced-based regional medical center and GME facility serving Fort Bragg, the home of Airborne and Special Operations and the largest U.S. Army installation in the world. We manage several outstanding Primary Care practice sites located in Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, Hope Mills, and Linden Oaks.

    Womack is located in Fayetteville, Fort Bragg which is 2 hours from the beach and 5 hours from the Appalachian Mountains with easy access to I-95 and all points north and south. This central North Carolina location enjoys seasonably palatable weather year-round.     Responsibilities:
    As a Resdiency Faculty Physician Family Medicine you will:
    Assigned to the Family Medicine Residency Clinic at Womack Army Medical Center, to provide examinations, diagnostic and treatment services. Duties also include supervision and training of residents and other students.

    Examines patients; determines need for and orders laboratory test, x-rays, and other procedures necessary to complete medical facts on the case. Interprets examination findings and test results, makes diagnoses of disease, illness, disorder, or injury, and treats patients or prescribes course of treatment. Makes presumptive diagnoses off more serious or uncommon conditions and seeks advice of appropriate consultants. Prepares proper documentation of action taken on case. Performs tasks to include, but not limited to, direct outpatient care; prenatal care for obstetric patients and postpartum care; consultation; medical advice over the telephone; paperwork completion. Performs administrative functions to include performing military physical examinations and medical evaluation boards; obtains an adequate history, physical, assessment and plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develops treatment plan; utilizes paraprofessional staff as appropriate; responds to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate and arrange appropriate backup from WAMC staff; interprets electrocardiograms; preliminarily interprets basic imaging studies to include plain radiographs.

    Performs a variety of specialty appropriate physical examinations such as, but not limited to, well child examinations, well woman exams, general physicals, prenatal care, post-partum exams, and health certificates for employment. Orders laboratory tests, imaging, etc., and arranges consultations as necessary. Completes medical work-up as pertinent to the type of examination, coordinating all laboratory and consultation findings and making diagnoses. Ensures that physical profiles adhere to regulatory and procedural requirements. Diagnose and treat diseases and injuries to include, but not limited to, skin, head, eyes, ears, nose throat/mouth, neck, cardiovascular system, pulmonary system, gastrointestinal system, lymphatic system, musculoskeletal system, genitourinary system, reproductive system, psychiatric disease, central nervous system, endocrine system, peripheral nervous system.

    Performs procedures for which credentialing has been delineated, which may include but are not limited to vasectomies, colposcopy, minor skin procedures, endometrial sampling, cardiac stress testing, skin incision and drainage, nail trephination, reduction of dislocations and fractures when appropriate, stabilization and evaluation of cervical spine injuries as appropriate, lumbar puncture, paracentesis, thoracentesis, removal of foreign bodies as appropriate, venous punctures for lab studies and interpretation of results, performance and interpretation of arterial blood gases, simple laceration repair, suture removal. In emergency situations, be able to secure and maintain an adequate airway, splint, and stabilize traumatic injuries to extremities; administer intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications as appropriate; Secure and maintain adequate intravenous access by peripheral and central routes; Place and manage NG/OG tubes; Local anesthesia; Restraints.

    Serves as attending staff physician within the Womack Family Medicine Residency Clinic. Performs specialty appropriate outpatient clinical duties. Other areas of care may include but are not limited to Soldier Readiness Processing and the Emergency Room. No on-call duties are associated with this position. However, this position is considered weather essential and weekend work may be required due to hospital mission requirements.

    Responsible for supervision of medical students, physician assistant students, and nurse practitioner students assigned to the Primary Care Services Division, Family Medicine Residency Clinic. Participates in other aspects of training programs at WAMC at the discretion of the Residency Program Director. Provides professional guidance to military and civilian medical personnel assigned to the clinic.

    Assumes additional residency staff duties as assigned by the Residency Program Director. This may include, but is not limited to, functioning as a resident advisor, providing feedback to residents on performance, counseling residents on performance, functioning as an attending physician mentor and role model, performing duties as a liaison with other hospital departments, acting as residency spokesperson on varied hospital management committees, or other additional roles as assigned by the Residency Program Director.

    Complies with the requirements set forth for residency faculty by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Family Medicine Residency Review Committee and as directed by the Residency Program Director.

    Role models professionalism, demonstrating commitment to safe, equitable, high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care.

    Demonstrates a strong interest in the education of residents including devoting sufficient time to the educational program to fulfil their supervisory and teaching responsibilities. They must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating residents.

    Regularly participates in organized clinical discussions, journal clubs, and conferences.
    Pursues faculty development designed to enhance their skills at least annually: as educators and evaluators; in quality improvement, eliminating health inequities, and patient safety; in fostering their own and their residents’ wellbeing; and in patient care based on their practice-based learning and improvement efforts.

    Provides informal and formal didactic presentations in support of the residency’s longitudinal curriculum. Assists in designing curriculum and methods of assessment. May participate in the design and implementation of medical simulation to train residents and students.
    Participates in scholarly activity and dissemination of scholarly activity, supporting the residency’s research curriculum per the ACGME Family Medicine Residency Review Committee.

    Maintains credentials in compliance with medical staff standards and requirements. Participates in quality assurance, quality improvement, peer review, and similar professional medical activities in conjunction with accreditation and other standards required of medical facilities. Performs administrative duties inherent to medical center/clinical activities. Participates in continuing medical education, both departmental and non-departmental. Provides professional guidance to assigned medical personnel on duty. Provides in-service training in support of quality improvement efforts. Attends and participates in clinical and administrative staff meetings.

    Qualifications:
    US Citizen

    Board Certified/Board Eligible Family Medicine preferred but Internal Medicine and/or Pediatrics acceptable

    Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

    Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
