    New Graduate Residency:

We have a competitive program that requires recommendations from Nursing Program instructors and proven academic excellence.  You'll spend six months in our residency program learning the basics of hospice care in both inpatient settings at our care centers, and in the outpatient setting to gain a robust learning experience.

With this program you'll also receive $10,000 towards student loan payments and other costs associated with nursing studies, with a two year work commitment.

    Schedule:

    • After your orientation period - your typical schedule will be Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, but based on patient needs and emergencies, flexibility may be required to ensure quality care and comfort.
    • Occasionally, you’ll travel outside of your home county to our outer locations to meet team members, observe other disciplines, and gain experience in providing care in a variety of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
    • Some of the best and most informative experiences happen with the night and weekend on call staff. You’ll have a night or weekend shift with the on-call team.
    • Our agency does have a dedicated on-call team.  After your residency, depending on what position you accept, you may be required to serve as back up on call.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • You’ll spend time in a classroom setting with our clinical education department learning about end-of-life pain and symptom management, medications, assessment and interventions, real-time documentation and requirements, care coordination, policies and procedures, and guidance on how to train and educate patient’s families.
    • You’ll have a dedicated RN preceptor for your entire six-month residency.  The preceptor will mentor you on the specific role you are shadowing.
    • You’ll have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of patient care settings and roles.  This will include inpatient and outpatient settings, admissions, routine visits, emergent on call visits, and recertification visits.
    • The clinical education department along with your preceptor will arrange time with other disciplines such as social workers, chaplains, CNAs, nurse practitioners, liaisons, patient access, scheduling, DME supply controller, triage, and our memory care program.
    • You will be part of an Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) consisting of a physician, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, medical social worker, chaplain, and a CNA.  Volunteers are also available to assist in patient’s needs.  The team meets every two weeks to discuss patient eligibility.
    • You’ll see your patients wherever they consider home (personal residence, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities).  We provide quality care regardless of circumstance to a variety of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
    • You’ll need to be comfortable training the caregivers to care for their loved one. This might include things like demonstrating wound care, how to administer medications, how to provide personal care, and what to expect at end-of-life.
    • When you shadow with the outpatient team, expect to spend extended time periods in the car with your preceptor or another team member, driving between patients, documenting, and coordinating care.  If you must use your own personal vehicle, and mileage driven between patient visits is reimbursable.
    • Coordination of care between your patient’s community medical provider, hospice provider, and other disciplines to provide updates, obtain new orders, takes place in between visits.
    • Once you have completed the residency program and competency evaluations have been met, patients are assigned by your director based on your team’s needs – determined by acuity, geography, and many other factors.
