DEPARTMENT PURPOSE
The Planned Giving team assists with administration of life-income gifts including charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities. Responsibilities include working with UC Office of the President, UC Davis Foundation, BNY Mellon and State Street Global Advisors to ensure timely distributions, filing of trust tax returns, distribution of tax statements to beneficiaries, and calculation of subsequent year's payments for unitrusts.
The team builds and maintains relationships with professional advisors such as, attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors in order to encourage gifts to UC Davis. Assist donors in incorporating appropriate gift provisions in estate plans.
Development & Alumni Relations (DEVAR) provides leadership in building enduring public trust, understanding, and support for UC Davis and its mission of teaching, research, and public service. DEVAR provides leadership, coordination and support services to help the university meet its mission of research, teaching and service by building philanthropic support and executing approved fundraising programs that support the university’s highest priorities and initiatives.
JOB SUMMARY
Under broad direction from the Managing Executive Director of Planned Giving (Gift Acquisition), serves as a critical member of the UC Davis Planned Giving team. The Associate Director of Development is a skilled fundraising professional with in-depth understanding of the field, who independently performs the full range of responsibilities of a university development officer, analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope, and determines solutions. Using advanced fundraising concepts, plans, organizes, and directs fundraising campaigns which include multiple components. The results of the incumbent’s efforts have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the “major gifts" level, including building and managing a well-documented and active portfolio of individuals, planned gifts, corporations, and foundations, and focusses on donors capable of giving $50K or more.
This position plans, schedules, and implements comprehensive fundraising projects and programs. This position is metric-driven and expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established by the Planned Giving team and aligned with the assigned portfolio. This is a fundraising position focused on stewarding existing and new donor relationships. Guided by a “donor centered” approach, the incumbent will strategically solicit gifts using various communication methods, including in person, video, texting, phone, social media and virtual visits. This position requires good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, and works independently, collaboratively, and collegially as part of a diverse, matrix organization.
