    Position Summary:
    JOB SUMMARY:
    Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development (EDOD), the Director of Development, Gift Planning (DOD), implements a comprehensive gift planning program focused on unique assets, life income gifts, trusts, and other simple and complex deferred gifts. The DOD maintains a portfolio of 80-100 individual/householded donors with the goal of moving these donors to a major gift commitment (currently $100,000 ), utilizing gift planning and blended gift tools. The DOD also serves as an advisor and partner to unit-based development colleagues in their cultivation and solicitation of donors in their portfolios. In partnership with the EDOD, a second DOD for Gift Planning, and the Trust Administrator, the DOD provides input to the overarching gift planning strategy, to include a vendor relationship for donor communications, programming for the R.A. Booth Legacy Society, annual investment reporting to life income/trust donors, stewardship of gifts and gift commitments, and ongoing learning opportunities for advancement colleagues.

    The DOD will partner with the EDOD in setting annual performance goals to include, but not be limited to, visits, proposals, gifts closed, and qualifications, and will have an annual dollars closed goal of at least $2M , determined during the annual planning process. Performance is assessed twice yearly through a mid-year and annual performance review process.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    • In partnership with the Executive Director of Development (EDOD) and the Director of Development, Gift Planning, serve as an information resource for the Advancement team on gift planning vehicles, relevant tax law changes, and effective gift planning fundraising
    • In partnership with the EDOD, the gift planning team, and the Director of Donor Relations & Stewardship, implement annual and multi-year Booth Society stewardship initiatives
    • Provide strategic direction and complete and execute cultivation/solicitation/stewardship strategies for a portfolio of approximately 80-100 assigned donors and prospects, working to engage each in productive long-term relationships with the university
    • In consultation with the EDOD, create an annual personalized work plan for the assigned portfolio and accomplish specific priority goals in coordination with overall University and Advancement priorities
    • Conduct a minimum of 100-120 strategically planned personal visits with donors, prospective donors, and/or their advisors to solicit major, planned and annual fund gifts through local, regional and national travel
    • Qualify a minimum of 20 prospects on an annual basis, including those rated major gift prospects identified by research and/or leadership prospects identified by the Willamette Annual Fund
    • Collaborate with Willamette Annual Fund staff on the yearly solicitation of portfolio prospects for an unrestricted gift to the university
    • Work closely with Alumni and Parent Engagement staff in support of university programs and initiatives
    • Collaborate with staff in Advancement Strategy and Operations on timely and comprehensive updates to donor information, contact reports, proposal status and annual goal setting
    • Along with the gift planning team, provide leadership and management of volunteer groups (the Booth Society, in particular) and support for special events, including reunion activities, regional programs, and stewardship events
    • Attend all Advancement and Development staff meetings and select University events and programs
    • Complete all administrative responsibilities in a timely manner, including travel planning, monthly reconciliation of travel and other cultivation expenses, and annual planning and goal setting activities

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Bachelor's Degree required; gift planning certification or demonstrated experience in a gift planning position preferred

    Experience: Minimum of five years fundraising or related experience with expertise in gift planning vehicles and a solid understanding of fundraising principles and methodologies. Preference will be given to candidates with higher education experience. Proven track record of achieving fundraising goals and initiatives

    Computer Skills: Experience working within a donor database preferred (Raiser's Edge/NXT or similar). Experience with the Google suite of office applications preferred
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to analyze data
    • Thorough knowledge of general office practices and procedures
    • Ability to form productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization, including external constituents
    • Ability to actively listen to donors and campus partners to identify areas of common interest and to develop a compelling case for the university
    • Strong writing and editing skills, including a commitment to accuracy
    • The ability to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously, prioritize work based on organizational goals, and proactively and creatively support the work of the Development Team
    • An outstanding customer service demeanor, excellent organizational skills, and ability to clearly and professionally communicate with all members of the Willamette community
    • Ability to maintain confidential information, navigate relationships with finesse, and work to the highest ethical standards as outlined by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)
    • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for signature events and activities including Alumni Reunion Weekend

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • A thorough understanding of Willamette and of the value of a private liberal arts education
