The Land Use Services Department of San Bernardino County is recruiting for a Planning Director who will oversee the Planning Division and assist the Department in coordinating, planning, organizing and administering the daily operations, as well as assisting with the formulation of policy and the administration of the department. The Planning Director will oversee the Planning Division budget, implement goals and objectives, supervise subordinate personnel including supervisors, and foster effective working relationships with other departments, agencies, and organizations.
This position is in the Unclassified Service and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Education: Bachelor's degree in planning, urban design, business/public administration or a closely related field.

Experience: Five years of supervisory or administrative experience in a complex land use or urban planning organization that is exposed to steady growth and development.
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's Degree in Business, Public Administration or Planning with experience in land use and economic development agencies and a certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). This candidate will have the experience to implement the County's vision of healthy communities, quality amenities, and diverse neighborhoods with a sense of place, history and culture. This candidate will also have the experience, communication and problem-solving skills to lead a team towards this vision, prioritizing limited and competing resources, while balancing economic growth with the natural environment and social infrastructure to complement the variety of neighborhoods throughout San Bernardino County.
