Plant Accounting Manager manages all financial control and accounting activities of a plant including general and cost accounting, payables/receivables and payroll. Ensures the plant's financial control processes and systems comply with company policies, applicable regulations, and provide required information. Being a Plant Accounting Manager monitors plant operation results against operating plans and direct the preparation of financial, production output, and other reports used to measure and control plant activities and costs. Leads the plant financial and capital budgeting process. Additionally, Plant Accounting Manager recommends and implements programs to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, and reduce costs. May require a CPA. Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Plant Accounting Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Position Summary
The Plant Manager should have skills in human relations, leadership, delegation, organization and planning, quality management, financial acumen, judgement, and communication. They should also be self-motivated, flexible, conscientious, organized, and have a good attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for day to day operations of a seafood processing facility including production safety and quality assurance.
- Ability to direct and execute production activities such as unloading, processing, freezing, packaging, storing, shipping.
- Must be able to lead, manage, train, and delegate work
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and production practices including food safety regulations like HACCP, QMP, FDA, and USDA standards.
- Complete/maintain all record keeping and administrative duties
- Good communication with office management and sales to ensure daily production reports, inventory, and logistics data are tracked and shared
- Negotiate and purchase supplies required for operations
- Contribute in maintaining a positive, healthy, and safe work environment.
Position Requirements
- Must be able to work early morning, late nights, weekends and overtime.
- Must have live crab buying and/or seafood processing experience
- Must be able to drive a forklift
- Must be able to keep plant environment and work area clean and organized at all times
- Fixer/handy person/repairer/mechanical skills a plus for plant and plant equipment maintenance and repairs
- College diploma or bachelor`s degree in business or engineering would be considered an asset
- Education and/or training in food safety or project management considered an asset
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a seafood processing environment or equivalent
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong personnel management skills (delegation, conflict management, conducting performance appraisal etc.)
- Organized and detail oriented
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to take direction/advice from supervisors and staff
