    Essential Functions

    1. Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.

    1. Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.

    1. Maintains the general ledger.

    1. Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.

    1. Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.

    1. Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.

    1. Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.

    1. Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.

    1. Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.

    1. As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.

    1. Examines assigned financial records and statements for accuracy.

    1. Analyzes financial data, making recommendations as appropriate to improve accuracy, efficiency, and to reduce costs.

    1. Inspects the budget and general ledger for assigned departments and accounts, ensuring that funds are available, and expenditures are assigned correctly.

    1. Prepares annual financial statements and records provided to federal, state, and internal auditors and similar personnel.

    1. Manages accounting duties for and corrections to listed financial records.

    1. As appropriate, identifies and recommends updates to accounting systems and procedures.

    1. Prepares annual financial reports.

    1. Monitors the financial records of an assigned accounting area.

    1. Studies costs and trends for assigned accounting area.

    1. Consults with supervisor on fiscal administration and budget procedures.

    1. Reconciles department reports for assigned area.

    1. Prepares periodic financial statements and reports for internal use.

    1. Review budgets for proposals. Manage the budget for each grant.

    1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

     

    Competencies

    1. Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and procedures.

    1. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    1. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

    1. Knowledge of office practices and clerical/accounting procedures.

    1. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

    1. Knowledge of accounting software.

    1. Ability to work well as a part of a team.

     

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibility at this time.

     

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds and to bend and stand as necessary.  

     


    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
    This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


    Travel

    This position does not require travel.

     

    Required Education and Experience

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.

    1. 3 years of accounting experience required.

     

    Preferred Education & Experience

    1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

    1. Quickbooks Certified

    1. 5 years of accounting experience required.

    1. At least 2 years of experience working at a non-profit.

     

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    None required.

     

    Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)

    Employee must be authorized to work in the United States and must possess a valid driver’s license.
