Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Police Lieutenant typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Starting salary with holiday pay is $53,353 plus degree pay plus the below listed benefits:

    • Educational Incentive Pay: up to $600.00 per year, per certificate (up to 6 certificates for a total possible $3,600.00).
    • Degree Pay: $600.00, $1,200.00, $1,800.00 Annually for Associates, Bachelor's & Master's Respectively.
    • Uniforms and Safety Equipment provided by the City.
    • Clothing Allowance-$480.00 for first full year and $1,980.00 per year thereafter.

    • Paid Employee Health Insurance including dental and vision
    • Employee Assistance Program

    Certified Officers: $51,000 - $63,000 depending on experience, certifications, education, and qualifications.

    Applicants for entry level Police Officer positions must meet the following criteria established by the State of Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, the State of Arkansas Civil Service Statute, and the Benton Civil Service Commission.

    • An applicant must be at least twenty and a half (20 1/2) years of age.
    • An applicant must have graduated from a standard high school or must have a high school equivalency; i.e., General Education Diploma (GED).
    • An applicant must have no felony convictions.
    • A complete background investigation will be conducted on every applicant.
    • An applicant will be required to pass a basic physical agility test, drug test, Computer Voice Stress Analyzer, medical and psychological examination.
