Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising patrol officers and agents as assigned and maintaining the chain of command within the operations of the department. Responsible for developing training programs for department personnel, directing special units, preparing special reports or projects as assigned, receiving and reviewing reports from officers, and assigning personnel in accordance to specific needs. Being a Police Sergeant requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5-7 years of law enforcement experience. Typically reports to a chief of police, captain, or lieutenant. The Police Sergeant manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Police Officers perform individually and as members of a team and participate in the following activities: enforce local, state and federal ordinances, regulations, and laws; apprehend suspects; responds to and investigates disturbances, service and accidental calls, patrol and surveillance; receives training and maintains skill proficiency; operates vehicles during routine and emergency situations; communicates with the public in normal and adverse situations; completes verbal and written reports and documentation. Police Officers work independently following written or verbal instructions that are general in nature.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be 21 years of age or older.
2. Must be a Colorado POST certified Police Officer, POST eligible for provisional certification.
3. Must have a valid driver’s license with demonstrated satisfactory driving record.
4. Possess no felony or misdemeanor convictions that would tend to decrease integrity or credibility, or moral turpitude.
5. Must be a authorized to work in the United States.
6. Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
7. Must possess the physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
8. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
9. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using tact and diplomacy.
10. Skill in recording information accurately.
11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
POST HIRING JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Selected candidate shall relocate to within 1 hour of the corporate limits of LaSalle (Negotiable).
2. Must successfully participate in and pass the field training program.
3. Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.

1. Works all shifts and/or rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
2. Deals with irate, abusive, and disorderly people.
3. Deals with the public in situations involving possible severe physical and personal trauma.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Vision enough to perform functions such as apprehending suspects; obtaining information at disturbances; service and accident calls; operate vehicles in normal and adverse situations; read and review written communications.
2. Hearing and speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly face-to-face as well as over the radio in normal and adverse conditions.
3. Arm and hand steadiness and manual dexterity to use weapons necessary to prevent injury or to protect self and others.
4. Stamina and tolerance enough to remain physically and mentally alert for short bursts of extremely intense work separated by extended periods of inactivity.
5. Ability to physically separate individuals that are fighting or preparing to fight.
6. Ability to run fast enough and far enough to catch fleeing criminals, or run to safety when confronting certain situations.
