Polysomnographic Technician under the direction of a physician, administers various sleep studies in order to diagnose the type and extent of sleep disorders. Performs routine patient assessments, scores sleep records, documents other test results, and collects and transmits biological specimens for analysis. Being a Polysomnographic Technician typically requires an associate degree or its equivalent and certification as a Polysomnographic Technician. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Overview
Performs basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies under the supervision of a Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT). Prepares patient equipment for testing, interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain pre and post testing procedures. Performs and documents testing per lab protocols. Monitors patient throughout testing and intervenes as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues. Assists with scoring sleep studies and generating reports. Prepares, calibrates, repairs and maintains equipment required for testing. Determines and reports needed repairs/replacements.
