Polysomnographic Technician under the direction of a physician, administers various sleep studies in order to diagnose the type and extent of sleep disorders. Performs routine patient assessments, scores sleep records, documents other test results, and collects and transmits biological specimens for analysis. Being a Polysomnographic Technician typically requires an associate degree or its equivalent and certification as a Polysomnographic Technician. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Provides diagnostic and supportive procedures within the realm of the Sleep Lab under the direction of the Respiratory Therapy manager. Performs nocturnal sleep studies in a hospital based sleep lab. Responsible for preparing patients for sleep studies, monitoring patients during data acquisition, attending to the patient and their needs, in addition to disconnecting from patient hook-up equipment. Properly sizes patients for CPAP masks and accurately delivers a desired positive airway pressure in order to treat sleep apnea.
