Postdoctorate Scientist performs scientific research in collaboration with a research team. Primarily a temporary position. Being a Postdoctorate Scientist requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Postdoctorate Scientist works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. As a Computer Scientist within the Water Mission Area (WMA), Enterprise Technology Office (ETO) Engineering Branch, some of your specific duties will include:

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement as described above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:
Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR: One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Examples of such experience may include performing requirements elaboration and software analysis, and writing software in an environment that requires a good working knowledge of the syntax, capabilities, and limitations of programming languages, as well as working knowledge of and experience with cloud development and deployment strategies. Successful candidates will have had the scope of assignments defined for them, but will be capable of exercising judgment in selecting specific approaches and, when necessary, making minor changes to adapt the methods to specific work situations.

Examples of such experience may includegathering initial stakeholder requirements; designing software solutions separating back-end and user interface concerns using microservices and other design patterns; optimizing use of cloud resources for both cost and efficiency; and analysis, interpretation and evaluation of computer software data and techniques. Work generally has not required modification or adaptation of standard procedures, methods or techniques, and development has involved typical methods and techniques to address problems for which guidelines and precedents exist.
