Responsibilities
Summary:
The Operations & Maintenance Technician 3 rd Class is capable of performing diagnostic testing and analysis, along with repairing and/or replacing most of the HVAC. Operate and repair building mechanical and electrical systems.
Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Supports the day-to-day work on a daily basis by performing various testing and diagnosis for the Operation and Maintenance department .
- Analyze, operate and program the direct digital control computer system used to control the HVAC facility operations.
- Perform diagnostic testing and analyze results of the electrical and HVAC hardware control systems using state of the art instrumentation equipment.
- Assist and or install HVAC installation and/or repair of equipment for maintenance and/or new construction of District facilities, including air handlers, heat pumps, piping, ductwork and controls.
- Assist and or install 480 volt and below electrical components and wiring systems for maintenance activities and new construction projects in District facilities.
- Perform general construction and other skilled craft functions for both new construction and maintenance.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Associates degree in air conditioning and/or electrical technology with 2 to 3 years related experience or the equivalent.
- Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical operation of building equipment, associated components and computerized control systems.
- Must be able to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace equipment associated with building mechanical and electrical systems.
- Working with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to obtain NERC access if required.
Desired:
- Technical training and/or experience in the areas of refrigeration and heat pump systems is highly desired.
- City of Omaha Third Grade engineer's license.
Time Demands:
This position is considered an "
essential position" meaning when business necessity and continuity needs are emergent, this position will be required to report to work and may be required to work hours beyond an employee's normal shift.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance in alignment with Departmental policy.
Must be available for overtime work and callouts as required to ensure continuance of efficient operation.
Environment:
Office/Field/Generation Plant: Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises. Work will also be performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, wind, etc.), terrain, and other natural environmental hazards as well as pollen and other airborne allergens.Will work around energies high voltage electrical equipment. Work will be performed inside with exposure to industrial building conditions and will be exposed to extreme temperatures, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation and exposure to sounds. Noise levels may require shouting in order to be heard.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to perform strenuous work in varying weather including lifting, bending and awkward body positioning, lifting 50lbs. from floor to overhead height, climbing up and down vertical ladders, pushing, and pulling. Occasional lifting of 50 lbs. from floor to waist height. Requires work in high traffic environments. Must be physically capable of climbing, working in enclosed spaces, near asbestos and lead. Must be able to perform all work when fully outfitted with FR clothing. Cardio-pulmonary and physical fitness may be required for utilization of respiratory protection equipment if working in a power plant.
