    The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator 2 (WWTPO2) at the Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) in Monroe, Washington.

    The Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) is a 2400 bed male all-custody level facility located 30 miles northeast of Seattle.  Employing approximately 1200 staff, the complex consists of five major units; the Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU), Special Offender Unit (SOU), a large mental health in patient treatment unit, Twin Rivers Unit (TRU), Intensive Management Unit (IMU), and the Minimum Security Unit (MSU).  Services provided at the Monroe Correctional Complex include; custody and security, classification, education, offender work programs, health care (both patient and outpatient), mental health care, sex offender treatment, food service, maintenance, personnel, recreation, volunteer services, religious services, library services, offender records, visiting and extended family visits.

    While working under the direction of the Equipment Technician Supervisor, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator 2 (WWTPO2) oversees the operation of MCC's wastewater and sewer lifting operations.

    The position supervises one or more offender crews performing wastewater, recycling, food waste and composting operations in support of the Department of Corrections' mission:  To improve public safety. 

    The WWTPO2 supports this mission by supervising offenders, and instructing staff as needed, in safe and efficient operation, repair and maintenance of prison facilities, equipment, systems, and sustainable operations at the Monroe Correctional Complex.   

    Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Oversee, direct and operate MCC wastewater lagoons, sewer lift stations and all auxiliary equipment.
    • Manage effluent ponds and lift stations to be in compliance with applicable codes, standards and laws.
    • Operate, adjust, maintain wastewater plant infrastructure.
    • Perform physical measurements, sampling and testing of the ponds.
    • Supervise an offender crew in the maintenance and operation of MCC's wastewater ponds, lift  stations, and food waste, composting and recycle operations. 
    • Complete maintenance work orders assigned.
    • Read and interpret plans.
    • Inspect multiple lift stations for proper trouble free operation.
    • Operate, maintain and assist with MCC food waste, composting and recycle operations.
    • Operate, routinely maintain all assigned heavy equipment, machinery, process equipment.
    • Emergency response. 
    • Other duties as assigned.

       
    Required:
    • High School graduate or GED
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Current Group 1 or higher wastewater operator license.  Licensing requirements can be found on the Washington State Department of Ecology website; http://ecology.wa.gov/Regulations-Permits/Permits-certifications/Wastewater-operator-certification
    Preferred/Desired Qualifications: 
    • Experience in recycling, composting, solid and/or food waste.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
    • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).
