    Who we're looking for

    Toyota's InfoTech Labs (ITL) Division is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Principal Researcher.

    The primary responsibility of this role is to research and develop V2X communication technologies and contribute to V2X standardization.

    Reporting to the Senior Executive Level in ITL, the person in this role will support the ITL division's overall objective.

    What you'll be doing

    • Development of simulators for 5G NR-V2X sidelink for V2X safety applications and large-scale system-level simulation evaluation.
    • Development of simulators for co-channel coexistence of 5G NR-V2X sidelink and LTE-V2X sidelink for V2X safety applications and large-scale system-level simulation evaluation.
    • Development of simulators for IEEE 802.11bd/NGV and simulation evaluation.
    • Leading university research collaboration for millimeter-wave V2X communication in 60-GHz unlicensed bands.
    • Leading university research collaboration for AI/ML for V2X channel estimation and prediction.
    • Contributing university research collaboration for millimeter-wave V2X communication and positioning.
    • Surveying and contributing to V2X standardizations such as 3GPP, SAE, and ETSI.
    • Contributing to ITL's research projects.
    • Regularly report and present to the research team and management.
    • Create academic publications and invention disclosures.

    What you bring

    • Ph.D. holder in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
    • Experience of research and simulator development of 5G NR-V2X sidelink, LTE-V2X sidelink, and co-channel coexistence of 5G NR-V2X sidelink and LTE-V2X sidelink.
    • Excellent experience of V2X simulator development using ns-3, SUMO, and MATLAB.
    • Experience in developing and testing software using C , Python, MATLAB, and GitHub.
    • Research experience of millimeter-wave V2X communication and positioning, millimeter-wave beam management, channel access for 60-GHz unlicensed bands, PHY-layer channel estimation, and deep neural networks.
    • Solid understanding of the following standardized V2X communication technologies: 5G NR-V2X sidelink, LTE-V2X sidelink, IEEE 802.11p/DSRC, and IEEE 802.11bd/NGV.
    • Solid understanding of SAE standards for V2X communication profiles such as SAE J3161/1.
    • Strong knowledge of wireless communication technologies at PHY and MAC layers such as radio propagation, modulation, channel coding, HARQ retransmissions, and channel access mechanisms.
    • Capability to learn and explore new research areas.
    • Excellent time management and task prioritization skills.
    • Clear and concise presentation skills, both written and oral, with consideration to international audiences.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a highly motivated team environment.
    • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to respond professionally in all types of situations.

    Added bonus if you have

    • Knowledge of the latest 3GPP and IEEE 802.11 radio access technologies.
    • Research experience of cooperative automated driving.
    • Experience of using software and hardware for wireless communication experiments.
    • Experience of professional activities for academic conferences and journals.

    The annual base salary range for this position is

    $115,800.00 - $188,100.00
