Position Title: Director of Engineering
Pay Status: Exempt
Department: Engineering
Position Relationships:
Supervised By: CEO, with indirect by COO
Supervises: Design Engineer, Engineering Technician, Industrial Designer, Documentation Specialist, Configuration Specialist
Essential Functions:
· Responsible for the below for all locations.
· Provide leadership for all engineering aspects including priority, projects, processes, schedules design practices.
· Perform and oversee the following:
· For specified component, or subassembly, complete concept design, obtain and ensure issuance of preliminary drawings.
· Build and test prototypes and develop test protocols and plans.
· Participate in review meetings with all functional groups, preproduction and design reviews.
· Interface with other functional groups (including end-users and customers) regarding testing, purchasing, marketing and manufacturing activities.
· Take responsibility for coordinating release of preliminary prints in a manner (accuracy, completeness, and timeliness) that supports the project timeline.
· Take responsibility for design including test methods, reliability and risk assessment.
· Interface with third party supplier’s design team to ensure compliance with company expectations.
· Take overall responsibility for project timing (including creation and control of development schedule) and successful product completion.
· Maintain RFE process and be point contact for issuing RFE’s and distributing work assignments
· Document control to include prints, BOM, Gerber
· Review and release ECN’s, First Articles, Deviations and Specials
· Develop new product and product improvement ideas.
· Provide sustaining support to existing products helping on-going cost reduction and product improvement.
· Active leadership and team support on contract manufacturing programs.
· Work closely with production/quality team.
· Additional responsibilities as requested or required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Design or related field
· At least five 5 years of successful experience focused on product design preferred and preferably medical equipment design, bonus if medical seating.
· Experience working with engineering change process and manufacturing Bill of Materials system preferred
· Ability to utilize CAD to do layouts and detail drawings sufficient to build prototypes and convey design concepts to other functional departments.
· Solid Modeling experience required. (Solidworks preferred).
· Thorough knowledge of mechanical drafting, dimensioning and tolerance methods preferred
· Experience designing and analyzing components and subassemblies.
· Proven ability with single and multiple components manufacturing techniques including sheet metal bending, metal stamping, fabrication, extruding, injection molding, and blow molding.
· Intermediate PC knowledge including Windows applications (Word/Excel/Access/Projects).
· Proven attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
· Ability to establish working relationships within cross-functional teams.
· Must have effective communication skills.
