    Job Description:

    Western Illinois University seeks a collaborative and innovative leader to serve as the Director of Institutional Research and Planning. The position, which reports to the President, will be responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and application of institutional data in support of the University's external reporting requirements and internal planning and data needs. It will actively engage with the University's administration to carry out the responsibilities of the position, including regular reports to the President and Cabinet on the status of institutional research and planning. The Director will provide information and counsel to university leadership in the submissions of institutional data and metrics to external entities, as well as the alignment of data and metrics for institutional strategic planning, goal setting and metric definitions.

    The Director of Institutional Research and Planning will possess a comprehensive understanding of research methods, statistical analysis techniques, data reporting, and analysis. The successful candidate will ensure the quality and accessibility of University data for decision-making that supports the mission, goals, and strategic priorities of the University and key administrative leaders. The Director will be charged with implementing appropriate strategies, policies, and procedures for the Office. In addition, the position will manage processes that improve the quality, integrity, and availability of data.

    The selected candidate will be an effective communicator, and will provide information, direction, and support for the analysis of key trends and issues in higher education by benchmarking, researching selective topics, analyzing statistical data in detail and integrating this information into various reports.

    APPOINTMENT: January 1, 2023 or negotiated start date.

    COMPENSATION: A competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be provided to the successful candidate.

    Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in higher education, social sciences, statistics, or a field closely related to the position.
    • A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in research methods, statistical analysis techniques, data reporting, and analysis.
    • Possession of strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated effective and collaborative management and supervisory skills.
    • Ability to understand and interpret university databases and use various statistical software packages to produce information to aid in the decision-making process.
    • Ability to prepare oral and written reports explaining results of research studies.
    • Possession of exceptional problem solving and decision-making competences, analytical skills, and organizational abilities to prioritize and following projects through to completion.
    • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining the highest level of integrity.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Institutional research experience at an institution of higher learning or similar setting.
    • Knowledge of analytical models and their usage in higher education.

    For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body).
