Summary:
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for utilizing Production Planning and ERP job scheduling information to ensure on-time delivery of cost-effective, quality materials from HTH approved supplier list (ASL) in support of their assigned commodities, and/or customer base in accordance with company policy. Responsibility also includes on-time procurement of “other” materials, parts, services, and capital equipment as assigned.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following:

Maintain strategic relationships developed with key suppliers aligned to the Procurement Specialist’s commodities and/or customer base.

Identify new suppliers, propose terms, and recommend potential supply agreements where appropriate.

Identify potential for supplier discount structures and volume rebates.

Technically knowledgeable with commodity and/or customer assigned materials over time to enhance ability to realize cost reduction opportunities and to interact with suppliers, engineering, and quality team members more effectively.

Stay up-to-date and informed of global market trends relative to materials assigned.

Manage Production Plan as reflected by ERP suggested PO output as required to ensure on-time delivery of cost-effective, quality materials from HTH approved supplier list (ASL) in support of production schedule and any assigned customer material orders.

Evaluate all Production Plans and ERP outputs for discrepancies between system suggested PO(s) and customer order due date as assigned by Production Planning

If a discrepancy exists between scheduled job due date and material lead-time, confirm lead-time with supplier. If the lead-time for the material is incorrect, update and re-evaluate. If still incorrect, contact Production Planner

Expedite materials where possible to and necessary to meet Production schedule.

Manage supplier base as necessary to ensure on-time delivery of cost-effective, quality materials.

Maintain cost summary for all POs dropped from beginning to end of month, by customer.

Work with Quality to effectively maintain ASL while also proposing addition of new suppliers as necessary to maintain on-time delivery of cost-effective, quality materials and/or to mitigate supply risk. Include Engineering as needed.

Actively participate with Quality & Operations as necessary to help resolve material issue root cause and supplier corrective action as directed by Quality representative.

In the spirit of a service organization, maintain close working relationships and effective Supply Chain support of Production, Engineering and Sales

Work with the Supply Chain team to identify and maintain metrics relative to on-time delivery of cost-effective, quality materials. This includes the tracking and reporting for assigned customer accounts, relative suppliers, and/or commodities.

Accept responsibility for assignments given by manager that require a timely response and an ability to traverse systems as needed for requested, supporting data and action.

Performs other duties, as assigned.
Education & Experience:

High School Diploma or G.E.D
-
Minimum 5 years previous experience in a Procurement or Purchasing role.

Solid computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Experience with Epicor ERP Software is a plus.

APICS/CPSM qualified or equivalent business experience is a plus.

Employees must be able to cope with Minnesota climate variances, endure heat & cold conditions in the shop. Endure heavy workloads, high noise levels from hammering, and grinding (hearing protection provided). Protect against metal particles, fumes, sparks, particles, and gases (safety glasses, safety-toed boots, ear plugs, and gloves provided per the company policy guidelines).
Individuals working in an office setting will not endure some of the physical & work environments conditions of the production floor unless office is adjacent to the production floor or per the individuals job duties and/ or responsibilities. All office personnel must abide by the PPE guidelines (safety glasses, safety-toed boots that are provided per the company policy guidelines) when entering the production floor or if a requirement of a department that individual is entering or working in.
