We are looking for an experienced and passionate Director of Product Design and Research to act as a player-coach leading the efforts to build out the Product Design and User Research function within Sequoia. This person will be a key member of our Product Leadership team, reporting to the SVP of Product Management for First American's Digital Title Group.
What You'll Do:
As a Leader, you will:
Build and nurture a team of user researchers and designers, setting expectations, defining goals, and providing mentorship and guidance to help team members grow in their roles.
Act as a Player Coach, investing in the professional development of the productresearch and design team, staying updated on industry best practices and methodologies and ensuring that team members have access to training and resources to enhance their skills.
Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, product researchers, and designers to ensure decisions align with user needs. Act as a bridge between UX and other functions.
Collaborate with key stakeholders within the defined design scope to understand stakeholder priorities and ensure user research and design efforts align with the product roadmap and development cycles.
As a Head of Research, you will:
Set the overall research strategy that aligns with business goals, vision, and product strategy. Determine the research activities needed to address critical questions and inform product decisions.
Establish methodologies and frameworks for planning, executing, and analyzing user research studies, such as usability testing, user interviews, surveys, and ethnographic studies. Ensure that research methodologies are selected and executed effectively to generate actionable insights.
Guide the analysis of research findings to distill actionable insights that inform product priorities, product design and development decisions. Translate research data into clear recommendations for product teams.
As a Head of Design, you will:
Develop and implement a design strategy that outlines how the design will contribute to achieving business objectives within the defined design scope. This includes using our design principles, system, and standards to ensure product consistency and quality.
Advocate for the importance of user-centered design principles and user research throughout the organization, promoting a user-focused culture and mindset among teams.
Develop and evolve the Sequoia design system, style guides and component libraries.
Quickly and iteratively create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high fidelity mockups and detailed UI and visual design specifications to Product and Engineering teams, as well as business stakeholders and executive leadership.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.
4 years hands on as a product designer
4 years leading product design teams
4 years leading user research teams
Bonus if you have led blended design and user research teams.
Previous experience developing a high-performing user design and research organization within a high growth environment
Hands-on experience to demonstrate a deep understanding of user design theory, methods, and practices.
Deep experience in user research, discovery, and design strategy. Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and interaction design, user-centered design process, as well as strong knowledge of user experience principles and techniques.
Experience in building and maturing design operations.
Pay Range: $ 175,000 - $230,000 annually
This hiring range is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the salary range of possible compensation at the time of the posting and is subject to change. The actual compensation offered will be determined by various factors, which may include a candidate's education, training, experience, and geographic location.
