Product Development Director plans and directs the resources and processes required to implement the vision and strategy for new product development and product lifecycle management of existing products. Establishes research and concept development projects and capabilities to innovate new products, product enhancements, and product redesign. Being a Product Development Director conducts market analysis and interacts with customers and prospects to identify new markets, articulate the value proposition, define requirements, and lead the development of a product roadmap. Oversees new product development and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including marketing, sales, and manufacturing, to ensure that new and existing products support the organization's financial goals. Additionally, Product Development Director develops teams with the knowledge and expertise to fulfill product development objectives. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Product Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Product Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • The Role

    This position will support the design and development activities and is responsible for the productivity, quality control, and safety measures as established and set for the R&D Department.
     

    A Few Key Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and develop new biotechnological products and devices.
    • Assist in the design and engineering of product prototypes using CAD software and other design tools.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations to assess the viability and performance of product concepts.
    • Support the transfer of new products from development to manufacturing, including process optimization and scale-up activities.
    • Work closely with R&D and manufacturing teams to implement design changes and enhancements based on customer feedback and market trends.
    • Conduct design reviews and analyses to assess the impact of proposed changes on product performance and regulatory compliance.
    • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of product design specifications, drawings, and testing protocols.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and quality management systems throughout the product development process.
    • Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including product specifications, risk assessments, and regulatory submissions.
    • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to provide updates on project status, risks, and opportunities.

    What You Bring

    • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • 1-2 years of relevant experience in product development or engineering within the biotechnology or medical device industry.
    • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other engineering design tools.
    • Experience using standard MS Office software, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Experience using Solidworks and Autocad
    • Strong analytical ability and demonstrated problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
    • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, problem solving and innovation.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying scopes at once
    • Flexibility to change and demonstrate an upbeat and enthusiastic attitude.
    • Potential to take on increasing responsibilities as the organization expands.
    • Must be easily adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines.
    • Self-starter and a team player that will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
    Relocation benefits are not offered for this role. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of San Diego, Ca is $823,230 and $91,934.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
