Job Summary
The Product Engineer position at Jim Myers & Sons, Inc. (JMS) is a vital member of the Bio-HANDLING Engineering Team and is a diverse high paced position with the following primary responsibilities.
Responsibilities include
- Project calculations, budget, timing, and quality
- Design of mechanical equipment with high attention to detail
- Adherence to project schedule and specifications to meet the projects time objectives and milestones
- Development and maintenance of internal design and engineering standards
- Performing detailed stress analysis and calculations
- Communication with internal customers in sales, engineering, manufacturing and customer service
- Working effectively & efficiently with project team members on multiple projects simultaneously
- Interfacing on technical issues with manufacturing, procurement, and service
- Working with shop fabrication, machining, and assembly of the equipment
- Application of strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a logical thought process
- Some travel to plant sites required for field measurements, installation support, and troubleshooting
- Following all JMS, Inc. policies and procedures
Qualifications
- High level of knowledge/experience with applying engineering principals to electro-mechanical equipment
- High level of proficiency with completing engineering calculations
- 5 years of experience with the design of mechanical equipment, weldments, and assemblies
- 2 years of experience with 3D & 2D design and detailing
- Strong communication skills including the ability to negotiate positive outcomes
- Experience with power transmission equipment including motors, gearboxes, chain drives, shafts & bearings
- Knowledge of fabrication processes such as bending, punching, welding, machining, etc.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook
Desired Experience and Skills
- Experience with the municipal water and wastewater industry a plus
- Experience with material handling systems (conveyors and bulk storage) a plus
- Experience with Solidworks and AutoCAD
- Experience with RISA3D, Tekla, or equivalent structural design and detailing software
- Experience with FEA and/or CFD is a plus
- Experience with the application of AISC code
Education
- Master’s or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant field of engineering from and accredited program with equivalent combination of experience
