SUMMARY:
Researches, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and coordinates activities involved in the drafting and design process of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Designs products or sub-systems such as vacuum chambers, controls, robots, material handling, electrode structures, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems to interface machines, hardware, and software
· Coordinates fabrication and testing activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications
· Originate material specifications as to type, grade, heat treating, surface finish, etc.
· Propose engineering changes to increase manufacturability, reduce cost, and/or reduce defect rates
· Generate redlines in coordination with manufacturing, and ensure product changes are incorporated into engineering documentation
· Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes
· Provide manufacturing support by answering engineering questions and requests
· Provide engineering support for quality and purchasing departments assisting with material and process nonconformance reports
· Document process controls/capabilities and suggest areas for improvement
· Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering and minimum of four years of work experience in mechanical engineering
OR
· Master’s Degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering and minimum of two years of work experience in mechanical engineering
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Advanced Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD knowledge; working ability with AutoCAD
· Working knowledge of integrated systems to include electronics and all mechanical assemblies
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, BOMs, manufacturing documentation systems, and other related material
· Ability to communicate effectively interdepartmentally and externally with vendors
· Ability to develop technical reports and present technical material
· Advanced ability in the use of AutoCAD, Inventor or other 3D CAD system, and Algor or similar multi-physics mechanical simulation software
· Understanding of 6-sigma principles for us in process control/capability
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· The normal work environment is typical of a business office, manufacturing laboratory, and support areas such as production, test, and stockroom.
· The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, touch, see, and hear. The incumbent may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
· While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions. Must be able to work on production floor, laboratory in the field or at customer site without physical impediments. Vision correctable to 20/20 and ability to hear with corrective devices.
