Adjunct in Biology - Genetics

  • The School of Sciences and Health at Elizabethtown College is seeking an Adjunct in Biology to teach Bio211 – Genetics lecture and lab(s) in fall of 2024. The class will primarily be comprised of second-year students from a range of majors in the sciences. .

    Classes begin Monday, August 26th, 2024. The lecture class meets on MWF from 9:30-10:20 am and the labs are on on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoon 12:30-3:20 pm. We are seeking an individual to teach the lecture, one or more labs, or all Genetics coursework.

    Job Duties
    • Follow a well-developed syllabus (class content, assessment methods, etc.) to foster equity and consistency across ab sections, maintain class standards, and use the Learning Management System (CANVAS) for delivery and management of the course.
    • Maintain appropriate office hours (on campus and/or virtual) to support students.
    • Maintain open lines of communication with the Chair of the Biological and Environmental Sciences.
    • Become familiar with Elizabethtown College academic policies and procedures and meet specified deadlines related to attendance, Academic Progress Surveys, and grade submission.
    • Provide an active learning environment with emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Required Qualifications
    M.S. in Biology or cognate field. Those with a Ph.D. are encouraged to apply.

    Demonstrated previous teaching success in biology or similar course, and demonstrated ability to work with a team is required.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Ability to teach the course on campus (i.e. face-to-face).
    Experience in working with students of culturally diverse backgrounds and/or under-prepared students.
    Demonstrated success in creating inclusive learning environments.
